Surrender, The unexpected songs
This CD contains songs from various shows for which Andrew Lloyd Webber
wrote the music.
"Over the past three years," he writes in the CD booklet,
"we have developed this album, which either features songs that have never
been recorded to my satisfaction before, of different versions of songs
that are better known."
Below follows the track list of this wonderful CD, as well as some
personal comments.
Note: The CD
The Andrew Lloyd Webber Collection from 1997
contains 11 of the songs from Surrender (2 of which are in English
rather then the translated version) and 5 other songs.
(See also the CD Sings the music of
Andrew Lloyd Webber from 1992.)

the lyrics by various writers.
The CD is released by Really Useful Record Co. Ltd. in 1995, and it has as

Unfortunately the lyrics of the songs don't come with the CD.
I received a lot of the lyrics from visitors of this page [many thanks!],
found others on the Web or wrote them down myself.
And I have also received (literal, rough) English translations of the
non-English lyrics [many, many thanks!!].
If you have corrections and/or additions please
let me know.

Often there are two or more different versions of the
lyrics of a song. For instance:
- of "Nothing like you've ever known" I got/found also a
second version and a
third version,
both very different from the one on "Surrender".
- There are, it appears, different version of
"The music of the night"; I have received the lyrics of a
second version and a
third version; the latter differs by only
four lines.

letters, which does not show up nicely in these pictures.)

Comments
For many years I have enjoyed listening to Sarah Brightman's CD
The songs that got away, for Sarah's
voice is very good.
Begin November 1996 I bought this CD of Sarah and again I must
conclude that Sarah can sing like only a few people can:
all songs clearly show that Sarah's voice is more than great.
The songs on this CD are recorded especially fot this CD.
Song 11 ("Pie Jesu"), however, is recorded some 10 year ago and Sarah's
voice sounds very different from all other songs (which is a bit of a pity).
I think that song 9, "Everything's Alright", doesn't fit in
with the rest of the CD because of the kind of song it is, though
Sarah sings it well (maybe I don't like it so much because two men
sing on it too).
Song 12, "Amigos Para Siempre", was the official theme of the Olympic games
in Barcelona, 1992, and therefore somewhat more 'commercial', which makes it
less wonderful, though Sarah's voice is again very good.
