In order to help you find the latest changes on my pages about Numerical simulations of 2D vortex evolution with a Finite Difference Method, I list them here.

Since June 1998 I am no longer working on this field of research, therefore not much will be added here in the future.

1999

21 september

• Added three more nice examples to the main case of a Lamb dipole that encounters a Bessel monopole, added on 12 Sept.; see that page or the main (index) page for details.
• Also made for easier reference another index page listing the available examples, as on the main index page, but then with pictures showing the initial situation and links to the accompanying MPEG movies.

12 september

• Installed the program nsevol on another computer and ran for fun a simulation, with a very nice result: A Lamb dipole encounters a Bessel monopole, with the monopole weaker than the dipole and the encounter head-on

8 september

• Reorganised a few pages and links a little, to make things look and work better. I agree, though, that the page layouts and structures are not ideal.
  Later, on 16 september: some more reorganisation, mainly of the main (index) page.

1998

21 april

• Added several new examples:
  • uniform flow across a mountain
  • Bessel monopole encounters a circular mountain -- with f0=0 (equatorial case),
    as well as with f0=+3 (northern) and with f0=-3 (southern hemisphere)

10 april

• Added several new examples:
  • Bessel monopole on a beta-plane
  • Bessel monopole encounters a north-south ridge -- with f0=0 (equatorial case),
    as well as with f0=+3 (northern) and with f0=-3 (southern hemisphere)
• Added a page on the Bessel monopole.
• Took the opportunity to update the main info pages on the numerical method a bit.

16 february

• Added a page about the formation of a tripolar vortex

1997

11 july

• Added a page about the general effect of bottom topography as well as two pages with examples:
  • Lamb dipole crossing a ridge (without background rotation)
  • Lamb dipole crossing a ridge -- with background rotation
• Updated the page Vortex Evolution with a Finite Difference Method a bit.

1996

10 december

• Modified the page Vortex Evolution with a Finite Difference Method and added a bit more info there about the program 'nsevol', plus links to a page with:
  • articles and student research projects that used 'nsevol';
  • references to papers with background information;
  • some information on running the program 'nsevol'.
• Added to all pages a nice logo -- at least I think it's nice.

4 november

• Added another example of a dipole collision, namely Collision under 90 degrees of two dipoles.

1995

20 december

• Added another example of self-organisation through interaction of 16 monopoles, initially not symmetric, with no-slip walls, contrary to the stress-free walls of the examples added on 1 december (see below).

12 december

• A Lamb dipole in a domain with no-slip walls.

1 december

• Page with general info on the Finite Difference Method I use.
• Two examples of self-organisation through interaction of 16 monopoles, both symmetrical and not symmetrical.
• Introduction of this page.

25 september

• Introduction of the main page on the Numerical simulations of 2D vortex evolution with a Finite Difference Method.
