- Changed the background and text colours of all webpages.
- The background was very dark grey, with the text in white,
which made in particular the photos show up nicely.
When that colour scheme was introduced, many years ago,
there was no problem printing the pages: browsers knew that
they had to 'invert' this and use black text on white paper.
But with the more modern browsers printing the pages became
a problem: light grey text on white paper, which is almost
unreadable.
- The choice of the new colour scheme passes the
luminoisy
contrast ratio of level 3, as recommended by the
W3C Web Accessibility initiative
to "provide enough contrast between text and its background so that it
can be easily read by people with low vision".
(The old colour scheme passed level 3 for the main text, but
the links only passed level 2.)
- The web pages related to my research work concerning
numerical
simulations of 2D vortex evolution with a Finite Difference Method
are located at another web server and still have the old colour
scheme.
