Oh I am what I am
I'll do what I want
But I can't hide
Chorus:
I won't go
I won't sleep
I can't breathe
Until you're resting
Here with me
I won't leave
I can't hide
I cannot be
Until you're resting
Here with me
I don't want to call my friends
They might wake me from this dream
And I don't wanna leave this bed
Risk forgetting all that's been
Oh I am what I am
I'll do what I want
But I can't hide
Chorus -- 2x
Oh I am what I am
I'll do what I want
But I can't hide
Chorus -- 2x
Oh-oh-oh ...
Music and lyrics: Dido Armstrong / Paul Stratham / Pascal Gabriel
From: La Luna (2000)
and from: La Luna: non-European version (2000)
Source of the lyrics: the CD-booklet, with a correction or two for
printing errors, as well as indication of the repetitions of the chorus
(actually: when the chorus is sung twice, the last line of the first time
is "Until you're resting here ...", without the "with me").
In the third line of the stanza after the first chorus, Sarah sings
"And I don't wanna leave this bed", whereas the CD-booklet has
"And I can't leave this bed".
Vibeke Patterson wrote me that the original version is well worth
listening too: it can be found on Dido's "No Angel" CD; that version
is the theme song for the American TV show "Roswell".
(Vibeke adds that the "No Angel" booklet gives also "I can't leave this
bed".)
And Bruce Bettinger wrote me that the song is also sung
in a new American movie called Bounce (2000).
"The song is good," Bruce added, "but not as emotionally charged as
Sarah's version."
For info on the movie, see
Internet Movie Database (IMDb);
I have not seen it.
