Sarah Brightman - Figlio perduto

Muri die vento
Notte è scesa
Padre e figlio sono insiem

Con un cavallo
Vanno avanti
In questa grande oscurità

Ma ad un tratto
Il bimbo trema
Dalla paura
Freddo si fa

Padre oh padre
Tu non hai visto
Re degli elfi
Eccolo la

Figlio perduto,
Vuoi far un gioco?
Gioia ti porto
Vieni con me

Padre oh padre
Hai già sentito
Cosa mi dice
E che vuol' far'?

Figlio perduto
Se tu non vieni
Io userò la forza che ho

Padre oh padre
Re degli elfi
Mi sta toccando
Male mi fa

E il bambino,
Con occhi chiusi
Lui non si muove
Perso è già

Figlio
Figlio perduto
Se tu non vieni
Io userò la mia forza

Padre oh padre
Re degli elfi
Mi sta toccando
Male mi fa

E il bambino,
Con occhi chiusi
Lui non si muove
Perso è già

... perso è già

music: Ludwig van Beethoven, adapted by Soltau
lyrics: Chiara Ferraù

From: La Luna (2000)
and from: La Luna: non-European version (2000)
And from: Classics (2001).

Source of the lyrics: the CD-booklet, with some corrections of printing errors:
--   in the third line of the fourth stanza "Dalla" instead of the "Dall" in the booklet: "paura" ("fear") is a feminine word, so "dall" should get the feminine "-la": da (=from/with) + la = dalla [with thanks to David Smith].
--   "elfi" instead of "efli" the second and third time.

Ira Tronza wrote me that this song is based on the Allegretto of Beethoven's 7th symphony.
And judging from the text of the song, the story is based on the poem Erlkönig (1782) from the German author Johann Wolfgang Goethe (1749-1832). The word "Erlkönig" comes from the Danish word "ellenkonge" and means "King of the Elves".
The poem (in German) is available at many Web sites, so there is no need for me to included it here. See for example:
  >   page by M. Müller
  >   page by Horst Kurz
  >   page of the Origon State University
  >   page of the German Cultural Society, St. Louis
[Thanks to Christian Wallenborg for info on this.]
The music of this Beethoven piece is also played near the end of the very interesting SF-movie Zardoz (John Boorman, GB, 1974), after Zed (Sean Connery) has freed the immortals from their eternal life, bringing them the gift of death, and while he is leaving the scene with Consuella (Charlotte Rampling); see for info on the movie the Internet Movie Database (IMDb).

The CD-booklet also gives the translation:

Lost son

Walls of wind
Night has fallen
Father and son are together

With a horse
They proceed
Through this intense darkness

But suddenly
The boy trembles
With fear
It gets cold

Father oh father
Haven't you seen
The king of the elfs
There he is

Lost son
Do you want to play?
I bring you joy
Come with me

Father oh father
Did you hear
What he said
And what he will do?

Lost son
If you don't come with me
I will use the power that I have

Father oh father
The king of the elfs
Is touching me
He hurts me

And the boy
Eyes closed
He doesn't move
He's already lost

Son
Lost son
If you don't come with me
I will use my power

Father oh father
The king of the elfs
Is touching me
He hurts me

And the boy
Eyes closed
He doesn't move
He's already lost

... he's already lost
