Sarah Brightman - Beautiful

If you can depend
On certainty
Count it out and weigh it up again
You can be sure
You've reached the end
And still you don't feel

Do you know you're beautiful
Do you know you're beautiful
Do you know you're beautiful
You are, yes you are, yes you are

If you can ignore
What you've become
Take it out and see it die again
You can be here
So who's a friend
And still you don't feel

Do you know you're beautiful
Do you know you're beautiful
Do you know you're beautiful
You are, yes you are, yes you are

Yes you are

Innermost thoughts
Will be understood
And you can have all you need

Do you know (do you know about anything)
Do you know (do you know about anyone)
Do you know you're beautiful
Do you know you're beautiful
Do you know you're beautiful
You are, yes you are, yes you are

Do you know you're beautiful
Do you know you're beautiful
Do you know you're beautiful
You are, yes you are, yes you are

Yes, you are

Music & lyrics: Nicola Hitchcock, Saul Freeman

From: Harem (2003).

Source of the lyrics: thanks to Christian Colding and Attila, with some corrections by me and Mark Bliss.
The words between brackets are spoken, rather then sung.

By the way, the "Making of" section of the Live from Las Vegas - The Harem World Tour DVD as a version with slightly different lyrics.
The only difference that the concert version has compared to the album version is Violet singing "Do you know you're beautiful to me?" at the end {thanks to Sheena for this info].

Sarah does not sing the exact original version but a slightly adapted verion, the auther of the lyrics, Nicola Hitchcock, informed me. Nicola wrote the two main verses like this:

You can depend on certainty
Count it out and weigh it up again
You can be sure you've reached the end
And still you don't feel (you know about anything)

You can ignore what you've become
Take it out and see it die again
You can be here for who's a friend
And still you don't feel (you know about anyone)

That is: without "If" at the beginning and "you can be here for who's a friend", rather than "You can be here, so who's a friend". Also, the spoken lines are originally "you know about anyone/anything", not "do you know ...". (The chorus's and middle lyrics are fine.) These are little differences in words, but they do really change the meaning of the song! Still, since I am collecting lyrics as Sarah sings them, I do not alter the words. Strange, though, that makes such changes in other peoples songs.

If you want to hear the original song and read original lyrics, visit Nicola Hitchcock's website [which is currently under construction].

Thanks to David Beecroft the authors of the original song can be given. David added some more info:

The track was originally recorded and released by Mandalay in 1998 for their album 'Empathy'. It was written by Nicola Hitchcock and Saul Freeman. She's the Mandalay vocalist, I'm not sure who he is. I'm not sure if it was actually released as a single, but remixes were released on vinyl at least in 2001. From your website, it seemed that you weren't much into dance tracks but the Victor Calderone mix is the most amazingly sweet and tender piece of music. It was a huge dancefloor hit and even heard it out as recently as a month ago. I would love it if something similar happened to Sarah's version.
I am indeed not into dance music, no, and I would not describe Sarah's version of Beautiful as "most amazingly sweet and tender".
