Jeffrey George recites Winter Diamonds

The blanket of Mother Earth, snow. The blanket of Mother Earth that covers the land, like sacred medicine. The arrival of winter, a time of rest, a time of reflection, a time to sit around with our loved ones sharing memories of our ancestors. The purity and beauty of the white snow sparkling like stars on a clear, crisp Winter's Night. When I go for a walk in the forest on a calm Winter's day, I hear the crunch of snow beneath my feet. I walk further into the woods, I hear the animals of nature as they show themselves, the red cardinal, the blue jay, the black jay, the black and gray squirrel, a tiny little chipmunk and a jackrabbit and the sound of a woodpecker pecking away at a tree. I select a fallen down old wooden tree to sit upon and take a moment of rest. I sit quietly listening. I close my eyes slowly, inhale, exhale. The breath of life that I receive is new energy from Nature's Garden, a true blessing from the great spirit. I am filled with gratitude and appreciate this time of the season, the connection with the land, baroness of the trees and the bits of green scattered here and there among the Cedars and pine. This is where I find myself, this is where I pray, this is where I meditate, this is where I envision a beautiful world. Winter snowflakes and icicles hang gently from the tips of the trees, nature, frozen, captivated in time. Winter's beauty also found on the edges of the rivers and creeks. Icicles and ice shine with great beauty, more precious than any diamond found in the ground. These are the true diamonds of Mother Nature just like the sacredness of the snow that covers Mother the Earth.
