Formation of a tripolar vortex

Details on the computation

Initialisation
Monopole: consists actually of three stacked uniform monopoles,
all centred around the origin and slightly elliptical:
             1) vorticity = -0.5, radius in x,y = 1.0, 0.95
             2) = +0.5, = 0.6, 0.57
             3) = +1.981, = 0.4, 0.38
             i.e. the eccentricity is 0.95
(The value of the vorticity of the centre is such,
that the total circulation equals zero.)
Tracers: are placed on exactly the same ellipses as the edges
of the vortices (with a minimum in points)
Computation: domain: X = (-5, ..., 5), Y = (-5, ..., 5)
no. of grid points from wall to wall: (257, 257)
boundary conditions: stress-free along all walls
             standard Arakawa scheme used
             no rotation effects included
             no bottom topography
             viscosity: nu = 10^-4 (i.e. Re=10,000 at T=0)
             time step: dt = 0.1
             final time: T = 50
