Cat pictures -- part 1

Tabby mother with her kittens, showing the variable coat colours of the European domestic cat. From D.G. Elliot, A Monograph of the Felidae, or Family of Cats, London, 1853, p. 41. *

The Girl and Kitten, coloured print (published 1787), after Sir Joshua Reynolds (1723-92). (British Museum). *

The cover of a very good book, translated in many languages (also in English where it is called "Minnie"). The story is about the young woman Minoes who used to be a cat and still shows some feline behaviour, and it is written by Annie M.G. Schmidt (1911-1995). It is children's book (age 9-12 or so), but worth reading by any cat lover!

The most comical cat there is, by Henkes & Graven: the unsurpassable Heinz. Unfortunately, the authors have decided to stop writing the comic.

The planerary nebula NGC 6543 is named the "Cat's Eye Nebula".
Here is also the photo caption from the Space Telescope Science Institute (STScI), Baltimore (USA).

*) Note: These two pictures are taken from The British Museum Book of Cats, ancient and modern by Juliet Clutton-Brock, The Trustees of the British Museum, London, 1988.
