Sarah Brightman -- Harem: a desert fantasy

The DVD Harem: A Desert Fantasy was released in the USA in February 2004; other countries followed lated.

The DVD is a mixture of performance footages and other recordings, filmed at "ancient sites in places such as Morocco and Egypt" and it "takes you on a journey through the desert fantasies that Sarah Brightman has created with her latest album" HAREM, as the web site of Angel Records put it. The back of the DVD says it like this:

A one-hour soundscape that brings to life all the magic and mystery of the East through hypnotic rhythms and gorgious epic settings. Filmed at ancient sites in places such as Morocco and Egypt, this desert fantasy takes the viewer on a dazzling musical journey of cinematic proportions.

All in all I found the DVD rather disappointing, actually. The setting is indeed exotic and nice to see, but often overdone: it is too much, making it unrealistic. And then of course the songs on the DVD suffer from the same problems as the songs on the Harem CD: there is far too much dance beat in the music, drowning all that is nice about Sarah's singing. Also: the songs "Time to say goodbye" and especially "Nessun dorma" are out of place in this collection. The first is a solo-version sung in the Arabic surrounding of the other songs, while "Nessun dorma" is simply taken from the La Luna concert video.
