Sarah Brightman - Schwere Träume

        Nightmares

Siehst du am Morgen
die schweren Träume
sie wachen über uns beide
Und tief verborgen
in uns'rer Sehnsucht sind
sie wirklich wahr

Hörst du am Abend
das laute Lachen
als wir noch frei
und glücklich waren
In uns'ren Armen
ist es geborgen und
unantastbar

Was ist die Erde
was ist der Mond
wenn keine Liebe
in uns wohnt
Sind wir verloren
oder bleibt in dir
ein Stück von mir

Siehst du am Morgen
die schweren Träume
sie wachen über uns beide
Und tief verborgen
in uns'rer Sehnsucht sind
sie wirklich wahr

Do you see in the morning
the nightmares
they watch over both of us
And deeply hidden
in our longing
they are really true

Do you hear in the evening
the loudly laughing
when we were still
free and happy
In our arms
it is sheltered and
inviolable

What is the earth
what is the moon
if there is no love
within us
Are we really lost
or remains in you
a piece of me

Do you see in the morning
the nightmares
they watch over both of us
And deeply hidden
in our longing
they are really true

Music: F. Peterson, M. Soltau
Lyrics: K. Hirschburger, S. Brightman

From: Symphony (2008).

Source of the lyrics: the official Sarah Brightman website [thanks also to Johanna Ouwerling], with some corrections by Oliver Briese and me.

The translation into English is mine.
The literal translation of the title is "Heavy dreams", which sounds peculiar. Johnny Thielen wrote me that "Schwere Träume" is old German for "Nightmares" (nowadays in German called "Alpträume"). And so I have decided to use 'nightmares' throughout the translation.

Note that the song is an adaptation of the fourth movement ("Adagietto") of Symphony No. 5 (1901-02) from Gustav Mahler (1860-1911).
