Sarah Brightman & Steve Barton - Think of me

Christine (Sarah)

Think of me
think of me fondly,
when we've said
goodbye.
Remember me
once in a while --
please promise me
you'll try.

When you find
that, once
again, you long
to take your heart back
and be free --
if you
ever find
a moment,
spare a thought
for me ...

We never said
our love
was evergreen,
or as unchanging
as the sea --
but if
you can still
remember,
stop and think
of me ...

Think of all the things
we've shared and seen -
don't think about the things
which might have been ...

Think of me,
think of me waking,
silent and
resigned.

Imagine me,
trying too hard
to put you
from my mind.

Recall those days,
look back
on all those times,
think of the things
we'll never do --
there will
never be
a day, when
I won't think
of you ...

Raoul (Steve)

Can it be?
Can it be Christine?

What a change!
You're really
not a bit
the gawkish girl
that once you were ...

She may
not remember
me, but
I remember
her ...

Christine (Sarah)

We never said
our love
was evergreen,
or as unchanging
as the sea --
but please
promise me
that sometimes
you will think
ah-ah-ah-ah-aaah-of me!

Music: Andrew Lloyd Webber
Lyrics: Charles Hart
Show: Phantom of the Opera (1987)

In the original London cast of The Phantom of the Opera Sarah Brightman played the role of Christine, Steve Barton played Raoul.

From: Phantom of the Opera (1987)
and: Encore (2002)
and: Love Changes Everything - The Andrew Lloyd Webber Collection, vol. 2 (2005).

Source of the lyrics: the booklet from the CD of the original London cast recording.

Note:
At a concert in Tokyo in 1998 Sarah sang a solo version of Think of me which has most of her original lyrics plus some other lyrics. Luis Artola wrote me the following about the parts where the lyrics differ:
they belong to the american (USA & Canada) staging of The Phantom of the Opera. I know this because I have seen the play in the USA (New York and Chicago), got the Canadian cast CD and also bought the original London double CD. Both the USA and Canadian casts sing the same lyrics as Sarah in the Tokio concert, while the lyrics in Sarah's recording were sung only by the original London cast (which included Sarah).
See this page for a comparison between the two versions.
